Traditionally, PMJA sets aside the two days prior to our annual conference to offer some in-depth training and professional development opportunities for our members. We canceled our annual conference scheduled in Seattle this year due to the pandemic, but we are still offering several of these trainings to our members.
Host Training: On two upcoming Saturdays: July 11 and July 18, we’ll be offering our Host Training virtually. WBEZ’s Ariel Van Cleave and KNKX’s Kirsten Kendrick will lead two, three-hour sessions. As experienced Morning Edition producers and hosts, Van Cleave and Kendrick will address a number of topics including producing effective two-ways, establishing and maintaining good mental health during these challenging times and the role of the host in the newsroom.
The Host Training course is being offered by PMJA for $100 and is limited to 20 attendees. Register here.
News Leader Training: On four consecutive Wednesdays beginning on July 22, we’ll be offering our News Leader training virtually. Sadie Babits and Lori Todd bring a wealth of editorial and news leader experience from several organizations including Colorado Public Radio, NPR and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. They will cover topics that include workplace culture, news vision, digital strategy as well as diversity and ethics.
The News Manager Training is being offered by PMJA for $150 and is limited to 25 attendees. Register here.
