Professional Bio
I'm a journalist and host of Outside/In, a public radio podcast where curiosity and the natural world collide. I also contribute frequently to NPR. My work focuses on environmental issues, climate change, tribal affairs, public lands, and politics.
I like telling stories in weird ways. A few years ago, I rode my bicycle 800 miles along the continental divide speaking with rural voters ahead of the 2020 election. I've also taken my dad to a learn-to-hunt camp, climbed 2,000' feet to count raptors, and went dogsledding in Alaska for a special miniseries on some shady racers from New Zealand.
I'm also a strong believer in journalism's role holding power accountable. My 2021 NPR investigation into deaths at tribal jails overseen by the federal government led to congressional action and two dozen reforms. I was also the first to report on the Montana governor's 2021 illegal killing of a wolf near Yellowstone National Park.
