Professional Bio
Lucy May joined the WVXU news team in January 2022 after nearly nine years as a reporter at WCPO 9 TV and more than 16 years as a print reporter in Cincinnati before that. Her reporting at WCPO focused on poverty, homelessness and social justice. She also has more than 20 years of experience covering women- and minority-owned business issues in Greater Cincinnati. Lucy covered stadium negotiations between Hamilton County and the Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals for the Cincinnati Enquirer in the late 1990s. She did extensive reporting on local government issues, nonprofit organizations, economic development and historic preservation when she worked for the Cincinnati Business Courier.
Before she and her family moved to Greater Cincinnati in late 1996, she worked for newspapers in Greenville, S.C., and Lexington, Ky., primarily covering education. She also worked part-time covering the Ohio Statehouse for the Dayton Daily News in the early 1990s. A native of Northern Kentucky, Lucy is a self-identified crazy cat lady who is married to her college sweetheart. She and her husband have two grown daughters and an undisclosed number of cats.
