What We're Looking For
You're a great fit if you have:
Public Media Experience
You've worked in public media newsrooms and understand the unique challenges, mission, and editorial standards of public radio journalism.
Small & Rural Station Understanding
You know what it's like to work with limited resources and appreciate the vital role local public media plays in communities of all sizes.
Editorial Versatility
You can jump into different newsroom situations and provide the specific support each station needs, whether that's hands-on editing or strategic guidance.
Remote Work Skills
You're comfortable collaborating virtually, managing your own schedule, and maintaining clear communication across time zones.

How It Works
Flexible Scheduling
You maintain your availability through our calendar system. We match you with stations based on their needs and your schedule. Assignments can be made as late as 5pm ET for next-day shifts.
Fair Compensation
Earn $100 per hour for all editorial work. Payment by direct deposit twice monthly on the 1st and 16th (or next business day).
Remote Work
Work from anywhere. You'll be matched with stations nationwide, collaborating virtually to provide the editorial support they need.
Contract Through 2027
Editor Corps contracts run through June 30, 2027, giving you stable freelance opportunities with consistent rates and clear expectations.
Requirements
- Cannot be currently employed by a local public radio newsroom
- Maintain accurate availability in our scheduling system
- Work exclusively with assigned station during scheduled hours
- Complete timesheets by the 15th and last day of each month
- Provide feedback for grant reporting purposes
- Maintain current profile on pmja.org (bio, headshot, contact info)
- Must inform PMJA within 10 business days if you accept a staff position at a public radio station
