AI Basics for Journalists

If you're just getting your feet wet with AI, this session is for you. Trainer Mike Reilley will cover basics of Large Language Models like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and other tools. He'll show you how to set up custom preferences, design prompts and how to use the technology safely and ethically in a journalistic way. During this hands-on session, we'll explore what these tools can do well (help with headlines, editing, developing questions, tips, summarization) and what they do poorly (write stories, accuracy, etc.) and discuss legal and ethical ramifications of using them. We'll explore many AI tools from JournalistsToolbox.ai as well.
