Professional Bio
David Barasoain is an Associate In faculty member and news manager at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Innovation News Center (INC).
Before joining UFCJC, David spent nearly 20 years at WABE, Atlanta’s NPR affiliate, where he wore many hats, including director of radio operations, director of pledge strategy and production, and director of radio programming. His journey in broadcasting began at his college NPR station in Tennessee, and since then, his career has taken him across the globe. He’s been an English teacher in Seoul, South Korea, a station manager on the island of Guam, and a media trainer near London.
David’s audio stories have been featured on AMP, PRX, and NPR. He also served as senior producer for the acclaimed Buried Truths podcast, created in partnership with the Georgia Civil Rights Cold Cases Project at Emory University. His work on the first four seasons of Buried Truths earned multiple prestigious awards, including a Peabody Award (2018), a Robert F. Kennedy Award (2019), an Edward R. Murrow Award (2020), and an American Bar Association Silver Gavel Award (2021).
