Session Descriptions:

Session 1: Building a Culture of Ethical Decision-Making This workshop provides strategies and a framework to make decisions, communicate effectively and increase the capacity of your entire staff, as you probe the nuance of ethical conflicts within your news coverage and within your station, particularly in high stress and high stakes situations and across platforms. We'll cover how to make sure your team has a solid foundation in ethical decision making, so that they at least know when they are making an ethical choice and when they need to reach out for help. Together, we'll learn, and practice, the leadership skill of coaching ethics.

Session 2: The Keys to Strategic Leadership How do you move from simply being a good colleague to a strategic leader at your station? It's all about skills, personal awareness and the choices you make with your time. In this exercise-heavy session, we will introduce key frameworks for how to be an effective, strategic leader. We'll cover how to manage your own time and priorities, how to identify what only you can do, how to both delegate and manage up. Finally we'll also work on how and when to embrace different management approaches, including coaching and performance management.

Session 3: Leading with Your Strengths In this session, you will receive feedback, coaching and instruction for your Gallup Clifton Strengths results, including a deeper understanding of your core talents, how to harness them and how to use that framework to optimize team roles, improve communication, resolve conflicts, and enhance talent development. (Note: Participants will take the Gallup Strengths test and receive results prior to the session. All participants will need their test results in hand during the training.)

Session 4: Mastering Difficult Conversations Successful public media leadership includes getting comfortable with difficult conversations that include change management, job performance, promotions, even terminations. This workshop will give participants the tools to have those conversations with their reports. We'll cover the basics of giving and receiving feedback and conflict resolution.
