Professional Bio
Angela Kocherga is the news director and a reporter for public radio station KTEP in El Paso and a regular contributor to The Texas Newsroom public radio collaborative and NPR. She's also a co-host of Texas Standard a weekday, hour long news program broadcast across the state. She's dedicated her career to covering the southwest border and Mexico for public media, leading television stations and digital news organizations. She has served as a bureau chief in Mexico City and on the border for a station group. She has expertise reporting on migration, border security and impact of drug violence on families as well as trade, binational health and the border economy. Her work has been recognized with multiple awards, including several PMJA awards, a national and regional Edward R. Murrow Awards. She is a 2019 recipient of the prestigious Maria Moors Cabot prize awarded by Columbia University for courageous reporting in Latin America in recognition of her body of work on the border and across Mexico. She also co-teaches the multimedia journalism lab "Borderzine" at the University of Texas at El Paso. She began her journalism career at a community radio station after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin and has returned to her roots in public radio to help build a news operation at KTEP the only public radio station located on the border.
