Professional Bio

Christopher Conover joined the Arizona Public Media team in January 2005. Conover’s main beats are politics and the military. He has more than 30 years of experience covering the Florida and Arizona legislatures for both television and radio.

Conover is no stranger to public broadcasting. Before moving to Tucson, he worked for WFSU-TV/The Florida Channel. He anchored a weekly news magazine and provided daily legislative coverage for television and radio, and also produced half-hour television documentaries.

Before moving to public television, he worked for Florida Public Radio for seven years as a reporter and news director. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University.

During his career, Conover has witnessed history including the Election 2000 recount which took place during his tenure as news director of the Florida Public Radio Network. He has also done a few things some might call crazy, such as flying through the eye of a hurricane, piloting an F-16, climbing the ratlines above the rolling decks of a square rigger, diving the ocean in Biosphere2, and wading hip-deep through the Everglades — all to get the story.

Conover has won numerous journalism awards for his news documentaries, feature stories, deadline reporting, and investigative reporting. He has been recognized with a national Edward R. Murrow Award, a National Society of Professional Journalists award, six regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, three awards from PMJA, ten regional awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, numerous awards from the Associated Press, the RIAS-Berlin Commission Media Award, and six Emmy nominations.
