Option 1: Skills Bootcamp

Deep skills development in your role

The Experience

A focused 1.5-2 day intensive at one location where you select a track that matches your role and dive deep with expert instructors and a cohort of peers doing similar work.

100-150 attendees
One location, multiple concurrent tracks

How It Works

Choose your track, commit to the full experience with your cohort, and leave with immediately applicable skills and new connections in your field.

Possible Track Topics

  • Audio Craft Mastery – Audio editing, production, sound capture, story structure, podcast production
  • Leadership, Strategy & Sustainability – Managing teams, ethics, strategic planning, funding strategies, AI integration
  • Digital Storytelling & Engagement – Digital editing, social media strategy, audience analytics, community building
  • Hosting & Producing Excellence – Voice craft, interview techniques, on-air presence, podcast production
  • Reporting Foundations & Beat Development – Reporting basics, developing sources, fact-checking, interviewing techniques
We'll select 4 tracks. Topics are based on member feedback from our Learning Needs Assessment and will be refined before finalization.

Location

We'll select a single accessible location based on:

  • Free or low-cost venue availability
  • Easy and affordable travel access
  • Hotel availability under $200/night
  • Space for 4 concurrent workshop rooms plus gathering areas
Final location will be determined based on venue partnerships and member accessibility.

Option 2: Regional Roadshow

Four one-day events across the country

The Experience

Four separate one-day events in different regions, each focused on a pressing industry theme. All attendees at each location learn together across roles and experience levels.

400-600 attendees total
100-150 per regional event

How It Works

Attend the event nearest you, or travel to multiple locations if different themes speak to your needs. Each event features keynotes, panels, workshops, and regional networking.

  • Building Trust & Engaging Communities – Audience development, community listening, credibility, relationship journalism
  • Sustainability & Innovation: The Future of Local News – Funding models, AI integration, emerging formats, organizational adaptation
  • The Evolving Newsroom: Leading Through Change – Managing teams through uncertainty, workflow innovation, fostering culture
  • Multiplatform Storytelling – Digital tools, emerging tech, new formats, social media strategy
  • Ethics, Fact-Checking & Credibility – Verification techniques, navigating misinformation, ethical decision-making
  • Finding & Serving Your Audience – Data, analytics, community connection, measuring impact

  • East
